Andalucia offers a variety of attractions that are best explored at different paces: major cities steeped in history, hilltop white villages, archaeological sites, and the coastline. Here is what we consider to be a must-see, organized by theme.<\/p>\n\n Book your tickets for the Alhambra several weeks in advance: entry slots sell out quickly during peak season, as do those for the Mosque-Cathedral of C\u00f3rdoba in the summer.<\/p>\n\n Malaga is worth spending some time exploring rather than just using it as a stopover: the Alcazaba, Gibralfaro Castle, the Cathedral of the Incarnation, and the Picasso Museum can easily keep you busy for two days. The city also has urban beaches\u2014at La Malagueta and Pedregalejo\u2014for a more relaxing day. Further east, Nerja and its Balcony of Europe, along with the hilltop village of Frigiliana<\/a>, round out the experience of this stretch of the Costa del Sol. We recommend setting aside at least half a day for the Nerja Caves. Ronda and its Puente Nuevo, suspended over the Tajo Canyon, are among the region\u2019s most striking sights: half a day is enough to explore the old town, but we recommend spending the night there to enjoy the atmosphere as the day draws to a close. <\/p>\n\n The surrounding villages\u2014Zahara de la Sierra, Grazalema, Setenil de las Bodegas, and Montejaque\u2014can be visited on a one-day loop tour. The Caminito del Rey, a suspended walkway along a rocky gorge near M\u00e1laga, takes 3 to 4 hours to complete and requires advance reservations, as the number of daily visitors is limited. Finally, Baelo Claudia, on the Costa de la Luz, and Italica, near Sevilla, are among the best-preserved Roman sites in the region. Driving becomes even more challenging in the white villages, with their narrow streets, as well as on the small mountain roads around Ronda and the Sierra Nevada. You have two options: explore one city in depth\u2014Sevilla or Granada, for example\u2014or choose a specific stretch of coastline\u2014the Costa de la Luz, the Costa del Sol, or Cabo de Gata\u2014depending on your preferences. <\/p>\n\n This is the most popular length of time for a first trip: it allows you to visit Sevilla, C\u00f3rdoba, and Granada at a leisurely pace. Another option is to combine two cities with a stretch of coastline\u2014for example, Sevilla and C\u00f3rdoba\u2014followed by two days on the Costa de la Luz. <\/p>\n\n A week is enough to add Ronda to the Sevilla, C\u00f3rdoba, and Granada loop, for an immersive experience that combines major cities and white villages. If you’re more drawn to the coast, you might want to opt for a trip that focuses on a single coastline in depth: the Costa de la Luz, the Costa del Sol, or Cabo de Gata. <\/p>\n\n Ten days are enough for a loop connecting Sevilla, C\u00f3rdoba, Granada, M\u00e1laga, Ronda, and C\u00e1diz, without rushing too much. One option is to expand the coastal zone by including several cities along the coast rather than the entire inland area. <\/p>\n\n In two weeks, you can explore the province of Ja\u00e9n, including \u00dabeda and Baeza, as well as Almer\u00eda and its deserted coastline at Cabo de Gata. The pace also slows down: more time for the beach or hiking, fewer days spent solely on sightseeing. <\/p>\n\n In our opinion, three weeks is the ideal amount of time to explore Andalucia at a leisurely pace. This itinerary covers about two-thirds of the region\u2014including the major cities, most of the white villages, and several natural sites\u2014while still leaving time for the beaches and local surprises. <\/p>\n\n We put together a loop itinerary ourselves that starts in Sevilla and returns there after passing through C\u00f3rdoba, Ja\u00e9n, Granada, the Costa del Sol, Ronda, Tarifa, and C\u00e1diz. 3-Week Itinerary in Andalucia<\/a><\/p>\n\n To cover every corner of the region\u2014from Cabo de Gata in the east to Huelva in the west, including the hills of Aracena in the north\u2014allow about a month. A trip limited to the three major cities is best suited for travel by train, which efficiently connects Sevilla, C\u00f3rdoba, and Granada.<\/p>\n\n Yes, in both cases.
