Is the village of Zuheros worth a visit?<\/h2>\n\n

Yes, the village of Zuheros is worth a visit. We loved its small size, its white-washed streets, its castle nestled in the rock, and the canyon that opens up just behind it\u2014far from the hustle and bustle of the region\u2019s more crowded villages.In our opinion, it is one of the most beautiful villages in Andalucia<\/a>, even though it is less well-known because it is more remote.<\/p>\n\n

We begin our tour with a stroll through the narrow streets of the white village of Zuheros, where the whitewashed houses are adorned with potted plants according to a local tradition that symbolizes family. The ground is generally easy to walk on and isn’t too hard on your ankles, so you can wander around without a specific route in mind: the village is still small enough to explore comfortably.The castle tower makes it easy to get your bearings.<\/p>\n\n

Zuheros was originally founded to guard the Camino de los Metedores, the old smugglers’ trail, before soldiers built a castle there at the end of the 9th century, named Sujaira. Conquered by Ferdinand III in 1240, it then became a frontier outpost facing the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, before returning to the jurisdiction of C\u00f3rdoba in 1293. We enjoyed the authentic atmosphere, which was quite different from the more touristy villages.<\/p>\n\n
