The best hotels in Malaga: our 4 favorites
Before discovering our detailed reviews of each of the establishments we have selected, take a look at our 4 favorite addresses.
Best intimate hotel: Hotel Palacio Solecio
Located in the heart of Malaga, the Hotel Palacio Solecio is a true jewel embodying the modern Andalusian spirit. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the patio, with its checkerboard floors, brick walls and colorful frescoes, combining historic charm with contemporary sophistication. Good news: it’s in this incredible space that breakfast is served every day!

Best rooftop hotel: Hotel H10 Croma Málaga
While we loved the Hotel H10 Croma’s art concept, we were especially enchanted by its terrace, surely one of the most beautiful in Malaga! Offering a 360° panoramic view of the city, this space is just as pleasant during the day to enjoy the pool as it is in the evening to admire the sunset over a drink and tapas.

Best design hotel: Hotel Only YOU Málaga
We loved our stay at this sleekly designed hotel, combining discreet luxury with excellent service. The rooftop with its infinity pool is the perfect place to relax and unwind. As for the refined, spacious rooms, they’re sure to make you forget the miles you’ve traveled exploring the city.

Best sea view hotel: Hotel Antiguo Gran Miramar
In addition to the supreme luxury offered by the Palace Miramar, we were dazzled by its grandiloquent lobby, a blend of Andalucia and classical architecture. The intermingling of sparkling chandeliers, colorful glass roofs, sculpted capitals and the play of mirrors with giant bouquets create an atmosphere that is both impressive and welcoming.

Where to stay in Malaga: best neighborhoods
Why stay in Malaga?
Malaga is a fascinating city and a must-see when visiting Andalucia. Situated on the Costa del Sol and bordered by mountains, the city is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, but there’s so much more to it than that! It offers a unique heritage, a variety of museums, delicious restaurants and sunny beaches.
So you’ll have plenty to keep you busy for several days, and if you want to relax, you won’t be disappointed by the modern, welcoming hotels.
We enjoyed the mostly designer, well-equipped establishments with excellent service. Some even boast magnificent panoramic roof terraces, perfect for admiring the sunset after a day’s sightseeing.
Malaga’s best places to stay: map
Here’s our map to help you get your bearings, with the main areas to stay in Malaga:
Staying in the historic center
In Malaga’s historic district, you’ll find the city’s hypercenter, home to iconic sights like the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Enjoy Malaga’s lively nightlife, with its many bars, restaurants and boutiques.
Benefits:
- Easy access to tourist sites on foot
- Numerous bars, restaurants and shops
- Wide choice of hotels
Disadvantages:
- Tourists
- Slightly higher prices (especially near the Cathedral and Alcazaba)
- Parking problems
- Cobbled streets
Our favorite hotels:
Staying by the sea (Magualeta beach)
Finding charming hotels along Malaga’s beaches can be difficult, as most establishments are either apartments or impersonal hotel complexes. In our opinion, the offer lacks the authenticity you’re looking for in a memorable stay, so we advise you to opt for a stay in the city center.
However, if you want to stay close to the sea, we have a few exceptions to recommend.
Benefits:
- Close to the beach with sea view rooms
- More peaceful atmosphere than downtown
- Parking generally included
Disadvantages:
- Less prestigious hotel offer than downtown, with less choice
- Longer access to the city’s cultural sites
Our favorite hotels:
Staying in Soho
Located between the Alameda Principal and the port, Soho is Malaga’s up-and-coming district. Nicknamed the “arts district” because of the monumental street-art frescoes it houses, it also deserves its title for the emerging art galleries it hosts and the Centre d’art contemporain (CAC), which we loved visiting!
Finally, this is the district to choose if you want to live like a local, thanks to its many authentic restaurants and independent or artisanal stores, far from the commercial chains of the city center.
Benefits:
- Close to Malaga’s historic center and port
- Dynamic setting, rich in galleries, artists’ studios and trendy boutiques
- Friendly atmosphere popular with locals
Disadvantages:
- Less choice of accommodation than downtown
- Less picturesque and aesthetically pleasing than in the heart of the city
- Little nightlife

Other useful tips to keep in mind
We strongly advise you to book your hotels in advance, especially during the spring high season and local festivals (Carnival in November, Holy Week in April, Feria in August). During these short periods, prices soar and crowds are at their peak.
If you’re coming to Malaga by car, choose hotels with private parking, as Malaga’s city center is often congested and parking spaces are scarce. Especially since the city and its cultural sites are easily accessible on foot!
Finally, please note that the criteria for awarding stars to hotels in Malaga are not the same as in France. Most hotels with swimming pools offer them on rooftops, with pools for cooling off, rather than real swimming lanes.
RENT A CAR IN Andalucia
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a compact car, as some villages have very narrow streets!
- Think ofcomprehensive insurance for the same reason
- Book early for choice.
