Is the Palacio Solecio worth it? Our review
We were won over by the old-fashioned charm of the Palacio Solecio, nestled in the historic heart of Malaga. As soon as we arrived, we were struck by the beauty of this 18th-century palace, masterfully restored by Antonio Obrado, and its iconic traditional patio.
Awarded the Small Luxury Hotel of the World label, the hotel offers exceptional service, refined rooms and modern, local cuisine.
Finally, its location in the immediate vicinity of Malaga attractions such as theAlcazaba, the Cathedral of the Incarnation and the Picasso Museum makes it an ideal place to discover the city.
In short, as you will have gathered, we were totally won over by this hotel, which has risen to the top of its class. the top spot on our list of favorite hotels in Malaga.

Decoration and atmosphere
The sophistication of the Palacio Solecio’s aesthetic appeal was particularly striking. The interior design reveals a subtle harmony of light and beautiful textiles, creating a warm, elegant atmosphere.
The first floor features a creative use of brick, paying homage to Malaga’s industrial heritage.
Finally, the palace’s authentic charm lives on in its preserved original features: from the solid wood beams to the delicate ornamental ironwork.

The attention to detail even extends to the hotel’s corridors, where you’ll find attractive color schemes, from the carpeting to the walls, not to mention a selection of delicate paintings.
Finally, the warm atmosphere conveyed by the decor is enhanced by the friendliness of the multilingual, smiling staff. The hotel also offers a concierge service to organize various exclusive activities for guests.

The room
Our room turned out to be a showcase of refinement, with every detail carefully thought out. We particularly appreciated the harmony of warm colors: brass fixtures interacted with mustard-yellow velvet seats, while the headboard featured a chevron pattern in the same ochre tones.
The parquet flooring and walls adorned with linen and half-linen added a particularly cocooning atmosphere.

We slept very well in the king-size bed, whose mirrored frame enhances the feeling of space.
Finally, singular touches such as wooden keys, an elegant information box, an adjustable lighting system and a minibar featuring local produce, testify to the special attention paid to the customer experience.

The bathroom
Refinement continues in the bathroom, with noble materials such as the white marble of the floor and basins, and the geometric pattern of the walls. Special mention to the soft LED lighting for a gentle wake-up call!

We found hygiene products from the Per Purr cosmetics brand in citrus scents, as well as a honeycomb bathrobe and linen slippers. Very chic! The walk-in shower is equipped with a rainfall shower head and showerhead.

The breakfast
Our favorite part? The breakfast! Especially when it’s served in a setting as pleasant as the patio of the Palacio Solecio, with its arches, lanterns and shimmering colors! On the plate, you’ll find a generous buffet featuring a variety of mostly local products. The sweet corner offers a fine assortment of fresh pastries, homemade cakes and several varieties of honeys and jams.
Nothing to envy on the savoury side, with a selection of cheeses and charcuterie.
Special mention should be made of the various toppings offered with the yoghurts, including a varied choice of quality dried fruit – pistachios, almonds and pine nuts, chia seeds – as well as fresh fruit in pieces or whole.

In addition to the cold buffet, the restaurant offers hot dishes to order! For our part, we enjoyed some very tasty poached eggs with Benedict sauce!
Hot beverages (available on demand) are served by the minute, and include hot chocolate and a variety of teas and coffees.

Equipment and common areas
The Palacio Solecio hotel has a swimming pool (adults only) on its rooftop, but unfortunately we weren’t able to try it out as it was under construction at the time of our visit. The hotel also offers a gym equipped with Technogym brand equipment, including treadmills, a rowing machine and weights for fitness enthusiasts.

The hotel also offers several cosy lounges where guests can relax and unwind. Note also that wifi works perfectly throughout the hotel.

The restoration
Here’s another of the hotel’s assets: its various food and beverage outlets!
The Balausta Restaurant is an integral part of the hotel, with its magnificent, colorful patio. This is also where you’ll have the chance to have breakfast.
We haven’t tried Restaurant Balausta, but we know it has a very good reputation. Chef José Carlos García offers contemporary cuisine based on local produce.

On the first floor, you’ll also find a bar area where you can sip delicious cocktails in a hushed, jazzy atmosphere.

Finally, on the rooftop, you’ll find another dining area where you can cool off by the pool during the day, or savor original creations at the end of the day.
