Is the Icon Malabar Hotel worth it? Our review
We were seduced by the charm of the Icon Malabar Hotel, nestled in the eclectic Soho district. As soon as we arrived, we were struck by the elegant architecture of this 20th-century building, restored with many nods to the Mudéjar style.
The hotel offers friendly service and functional, designer rooms, perfect for a city break! We appreciated its contemporary decor, in harmony with the nearby museums such as the Centre d’art contemporain (5min walk) and the Centre Pompidou (15min walk).

Decoration and atmosphere
We liked the hotel’s decor, which seeks to update the classics of Arab-Andalusian architecture. Special mention for the dizzyingly high patio, bathed in natural light and adorned with psychedelic azulejos!
In addition to the decor, the hotel’s atmosphere is welcoming, thanks to the comfort of the common areas and the friendliness of the staff.

The room
Our room was soberly decorated in neutral colors, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Wooden furniture, thick curtains and an exotic headboard were just some of the details that made for a restful night’s sleep.

Despite its small size, the room was perfectly functional with the sofa, open dressing room and suitcase rest. We particularly appreciated the “sleeping menu” which allowed us to choose our pillow according to our preferences.

The bathroom
We found it original that there was no partition separating the bedroom from the bathroom area. It was all in white, with marble-effect cladding, an immaculate white washbasin and white azulejos-effect flooring.

The bathroom featured a large, pleasant walk-in shower and toilet. We found hygiene products from cosmetics brand MB London, with a mandarin and sage fragrance.

The breakfast
The Icon Malabar’s delicious buffet breakfast is served on the premises.
It features a wide range of sweet (pastries, homemade cakes, seasonal fruit) and savoury (local cheeses and charcuterie) products.
Special mention goes to the few typical Spanish products, such as tortillas, and the health corner with gluten-free recipes and vegan options.

Equipment and common areas
The first floor of the Hotel Icon Malabar features a number of lounges where you can linger. For example, we enjoyed the alcove with table and bookcase, perfect for planning our Malaga itinerary!

Upstairs, you can enjoy a view of the patio and small sitting areas. A touch of quirky decor? The entire wall of pots, reminiscent of the white villages of Andalucia!

The restoration
The hotel has its own restaurant, Restaurant Salsa Menta Cafe, open daily from 12pm to 11pm. It can be handy for a quick snack after a day of sightseeing, but if you’re looking for a great place to eat, check out our article on where to eat in Malaga!
This same room, with its warm bistro feel, is also the place to enjoy breakfast.
The hotel is also working with the Too Good To Go application to reduce food waste. Every day, surprise packs containing unused products are offered through the application.
