Located just a few kilometers from Cordoba, this fascinating archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, bears witness to the grandeur of the ancient Caliphate of Cordoba. Medina Azhara is one of Andalucia’s most beautiful archaeological sites! We explored the ruins of this 10th-century palatine city, marvelling at the scale and sophistication of its architecture. Why do we recommend this tour?
Zuheros is a small white village that is much less well known because it is further away from the main tourist centers. It’s one of Andalucia’s secret spots. It offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty with its canyon and authentic Spanish charm. In our opinion, this is the most beautiful white village in Andalucia of all those we visited.
Nestled beneath limestone cliffs in the Sierra Subbetica Natural Park and surrounded by olive groves, we found it particularly charming. It is also dominated by a 9th-century castle set into the rock face. Impressive!

What you will see
- Narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses
- The picturesque castle overlooking the village

To reach Granada from Cordoba, it will take you 2h15 by car. In our opinion, it’s well worth the trip! Indeed, Granada will not leave you indifferent. We found the atmosphere completely different from Cordoba, and with good reason! Granada lies at an altitude of 680m, at the foot of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains. You’ll see the famous Alhambra, a palatial complex listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. It was on this hill that the last Muslims in Spain took refuge at the time of the Reconquista. 7. Take to the skies at Caminito del Rey
Why do we recommend this tour?
Caminito del Rey is the perfect place to immerse yourself in a sublime natural setting! Cut into the side of a cliff for the construction of a dam at the beginning of the 20th century, this path has now been rehabilitated as a hiking trail.
We gave it a try and loved this shot of nature!
After an initial walk in the forest, we took narrow paths through breathtaking scenery, observing the flora and fauna along the way.
The ultimate challenge: crossing the 100m-high suspension bridge between the narrow gorges!

8. Jaén
Why do we recommend this tour?
Jaén is a much less touristy city nestled in the mountains, famous for its cathedral and the views from the top of the old town. Let’s be honest, it’s a big city, so it’s quite busy by definition. However, it’s not a tourist city, not in the same way as Cordoba, Sevilla and Granada.
In our opinion, it has a few points of interest that are worth a detour if you have the time: for example, you’ll enjoy magnificent views from its narrow streets high above the city, its cathedral stands out from the landscape and its hills covered with olive trees add a certain charm to this almost artistic picture!

9. Explore the Sierra del Hornachuelos Natural Park
Why do we recommend this tour?
We enjoyed exploring the Sierra de Hornachuelos Natural Park. This is a remarkable example of a preserved Mediterranean forest. Covering more than 60,000 hectares, it is home to exceptional biodiversity: you may even spot colonies of griffon and black vultures, as well as golden and imperial eagles. The Bembézar and Guadiato rivers flow through the park, creating picturesque landscapes ideal for hiking and wildlife observation. Don’t miss the nearby Almodóvar del Río castle. Why do we recommend this tour?
The Parc Torcal d’Antequera, a geological masterpiece, is one of Europe’s most impressive natural sites. We loved walking through this labyrinth of stones and admiring the spectacular views over the surrounding valley! Once submerged under water, the rocks have been shaped by tectonic forces and erosion, sculpting this unique lunar landscape.
Walking through this karst landscape, over 150 million years old, is already extraordinary, but the experience becomes even more fascinating when you realize the presence of Neanderthal man, 5,000 years BC.

What you will see
- Spectacular rock formations
- Panoramic viewpoints
- Local flora and fauna: you might spot goats, birds of prey or discover endemic plants.

How much time should I allow?
Allow a full day for this excursion, which includes driving and hiking.
