Best bistronomic restaurants in Granada
1. Restaurant El Mercader(fusion)
A sure bet in Granada! The El Mercader restaurant surprises with its original decor right from the entrance: placemats in the shape of vinyl records, the Asterix comic strip as a menu, and even a dessert menu in the shape of a chocolate bar.
Take a look at one of the room’s walls, too: it’s made up of bottle tops containing recipe books. This cheerful decor extends to the dining room, where the service is warm and friendly, making for a very relaxed, bistronomic restaurant atmosphere.

The cuisine is modern, with a fusion of different culinary influences.
The menu changes regularly, and on our visit we sampled a Lebanese-inspired lamb subtly flavored with mint, served with couscous and white yogurt. A nod to star chef Yotam Ottolenghi, whose recipe book reigns supreme!
To round off the meal, we enjoyed a spiced orange cake with an original white chocolate sauce. All this is supported by a selection of carefully chosen wines.

4. Restaurant Avila(tapas)
Here’s a tapas bar like no other! This small, unpretentious restaurant offers an authentic standing-up dining experience, in the style of the locals who make up the bulk of the clientele. The atmosphere is particularly lively!
Did you know? Tapas are said to have been invented in Granada, where legend has it that innkeepers served a small slice of ham on top of a glass of wine to keep the flies out. The word tapa means “lid” in Spanish. Today, tapas have become a veritable culinary art form throughout Spain, but in Granada you can still find establishments serving free bites with drinks.

When it came to cuisine, we didn’t know which way to turn with all the Andalucia specialities on the menu. Special mention should be made of the wide variety of croquetas (crispy potato bites filled with different flavours) and bocadillos (small sandwiches), perfect for lunch on the go. We enjoyed a variety of meat raciones, but would have liked a small salad on the side to balance out these generous specialties.

A real trend in Andalucia, teterías are a veritable institution in Granada, a legacy of its Moorish past. These traditional tea rooms, particularly numerous in the Albaicín district, on Calderería Nueva and Vieja streets, instantly transport you to the atmosphere of the Arabian Nights.
