Want to escape the hustle and bustle of Malaga? The mysterious Playa Peñon del Cuervo at the eastern end of the town is a real nugget. Known for its iconic rocky spur that divides the beach in two, it offers a natural and peaceful setting, ideal for those seeking tranquility. It’s a place that has retained its wild and unique aspect, while remaining accessible for a memorable getaway.
Here are some useful tips for planning your visit to Playa Peñon del Cuervo in Malaga.

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We made our own choices, visited the area anonymously, and paid our bills in full.
Is Playa Peñon del Cuervo worth it?
Yes, we really fell in love with this beach and its mysterious rocky outcrop! It’s a destination of choice for those who prefer tranquillity and atypical landscapes. The absence of buildings directly on the sand gives it a much more natural atmosphere than the downtown beaches.
The experience here is twofold: you’ll enjoy a lazy afternoon as much as the walk to get there. The site is also a starting point for the more sporty who wish to tackle the Peñon del Cuervo-Olias hiking trail, a loop offering spectacular panoramas between sea and mountains.

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The beach is made up of dark blond sand. This sand provides a pleasant surface for lying down and walking barefoot. But don’t forget to bring an umbrella or hats, as the beach has no natural shade!

Swimming conditions and supervision
The waters around the rock are generally clear, making it a pleasant place to swim. Please note, however, that there is no lifeguard surveillance on this beach. Caution is therefore advised, especially if you venture close to rocks where currents can be stronger.

Installations
Despite its wild appearance, the beach offers public toilets and practical facilities for spending the day, including popular picnic tables for al fresco lunches. There are also playgrounds for children. It’s a place where you come with your own equipment, as there are no deckchair rentals on site.

- Choose a compact car, as some villages have very narrow streets!

Dogs are not allowed on the beach. If you’re travelling with your pet, you’ll have to continue a little further towards the authorized areas of the coast.
Fishing
A special feature of this beach is that it is open to fishing during specific time slots, generally from 10am to 9pm. It’s not unusual to come across local fishermen on the rocks.

It’s an excellent beach for families with picnics. The presence of children’s play equipment and picnic tables makes it a convivial place, even if the lack of supervision means that parents need to pay extra attention when swimming.

Eating out
There are no direct restaurants on the sand at Peñon del Cuervo. To eat, you’ll need to bring your own picnic (which most visitors do). Several picnic tables are available in the parking lot, in the shade to boot!
