Andalucia’s best museums: tips + map

Andalucia’s diversity is reflected in the richness of its hotel offer.

Beyond the large seaside resorts of the Costa del Sol, the region offers accommodation with a unique charm. You can stay in paradores steeped in history (ancient castles or convents) and authentic cortijos, anchored in white villages. In cities such as Sevilla or Cordoba, the experience takes place in intimate boutique hotels organized around their refreshing patios.

In our opinion, Andalucia hospitality is top-notch, whatever the range. However, the region has two peak periods: spring (for ferias and Holy Week inland) and summer (on the coast). Prices are rising fast, and the best addresses – especially those with terraces or swimming pools, essential in summer – are being snapped up. We therefore recommend that you book as soon as possible.

Here’s a map to help you find your way around Andalucia:

1. Hotel Palacio Solecio (Malaga)

Overview of the bedroom at the hotel Palacio Solecio, in Malaga, Spain

Why stay there?

The Hotel Palacio Solecio is the real highlight of our stay in Malaga, and we recommend it for a night with character. In addition to its excellent location just a 5-minute walk from the Alcazaba and the Cathedral of the Incarnation, this hotel’s finest asset is undoubtedly its refined decor. Nestled in a former 18th-century palace, it retains its historic architecture with wooden beams, marble pillars and iron balustrades, while adorning itself with modern furnishings. Every detail has been carefully thought out, from floor-to-ceiling color harmonies, to the choice of noble materials, to lighting that can be modulated in the room to create different moods.

2. Hotel Cortijo LA Organic (10min from Ronda)

View of a room at Hotel Cortijo La Organic in Ronda

Why stay there?

Nestled in the heart of the Andalucia countryside, theHotel Cortijo La Organic is a truly unforgettable place to come to Ronda! First of all, we appreciated the idyllic setting: the old 19th-century building, restored by Stefano Robotti of the Philippe STARCK studio, is set in an estate surrounded by olive trees and vines as far as the eye can see.
Secondly, we loved the simple luxury and comfort of the rooms, reminiscent of the rustic charm of traditional Andalucia houses. But it is above all the ethical approach that makes this exceptional place so famous. Here, everything is designed to respect the environment: from the permaculture vegetable garden, to the natural welcome products, to the eco-responsible activities, we’ve recharged our batteries to the rhythm of nature.

4. Boutique Hotel Luna Granada Centro (Granada)

Our room at the Boutique Hotel Luna Granada Centro

Why stay there?

We were seduced by the warm, relaxed atmosphere of the establishment. The contemporary decor in pastel colors and round shapes added roundness to the ambience and a touch of calm. In our bedroom, we didn’t miss the decorative details and the attention paid to the occupants, such as the pink tiles and the geometric sconces.
Then head up to the rooftop for a dip in the small outdoor pool. The hotel’s central location made it easy for us to explore Granada, and the attentive staff were a great help with our discoveries.

5. Gran Hotel Miramar (Palace in Malaga)

Overview of the bedroom at the Antiguo hotel Miramar, in Malaga, Spain

Why stay there?

If you’re looking for a memorable experience, we recommend the legendary Gran Hotel Miramar! Housed in a listed 20th-century building, this palace boasts 190 spacious rooms in a blend of Arab, Mediterranean and modernist styles. The height of luxury is to ask for a sea-view room (as we did!) to enjoy the spectacular view over the Bay of Malaga, its azure waters and palm trees.
We were pleasantly surprised by the refined details of the room, such as the Bulgari toiletries, the fresh flowers and the bed-making service before bedtime! Also noteworthy are the many luxurious amenities (exceptional pool, direct beach access, the Sisley Spa) the fabulous breakfast and, as a bonus, the excellence of the staff.

6. Hotel Ateneo Sevilla (Sevilla)

Facade of the Ateneo hotel.

Why stay there?

This hotel left us speechless! What we didn’t expect to find behind this rather modest façade was this magnificent, particularly exuberant patio. The living room furniture is in flamboyant red, with Baroque motifs. The decorative abundance can also be seen on the floor, with antique carpets covering the tiles. Numerous plants add a green touch to this space, which features a fountain installed on a trompe-l’oeil wall. The entire hotel is decorated in this way, including the rooms with four-poster beds. Why not enjoy it in the magnificent library or pub?

A true haven of peace in the historic center of Almería, the Hotel Boutique Murallas de Jayran offers a truly charming setting for those looking to unwind.
We were particularly taken with the elegant, well-cared-for décor, reminiscent of traditional riads. Each of the 6 rooms has its own personality, and if you opt for the Jayran suite, you can enjoy breakfast on your private terrace overlooking the patio.
The establishment also boasts a small rooftop pool with a shaded lounge area and an incredible view of the Jayran Walls, hence the name!

Hotel Las Casas de la Judería courdoue swimming pool

In buildings linked by picturesque Andalucia patios, refined decor blends traditional elements with contemporary touches. Rooms offer modern comforts with amenities such as an outdoor pool and bar for relaxing moments. 9. Hotel Alhambra Palace (5 stars in Granada)

Why stay there?

Would you like to stay in one of Granada’s iconic hotels? Inaugurated over a century ago in 1905, the Alhambra Palace is a place steeped in history. We liked its style, inspired by the Nasrid architecture of the Alhambra palace, next door to the 5-star establishment. You’ll spend an unforgettable night surrounded by forest and just a 15-minute walk from the central Realejo district. With its refined decor and rich heritage combining Belle Époque ambience and Moorish style, you won’t regret choosing this enchanting place where the interior shines with 1000 lights. Take time to observe the moldings, chandeliers, domes, earthenware and massive carved doors. We fell in love with the zellige mosaics that adorn the walls and floors of the hotel’s common areas, as well as the bedrooms and bathrooms. The spaces have been renovated to combine modernity, practicality and refinement, always in a top-of-the-range Moorish style. A true Andalusian symbol of Granada, you’ll also love the romantic setting offered by this exceptional place.

10. Hotel Only YOU Málaga (Malaga)

Overview of the bedroom at the hotel Only You, in Malaga, Spain

Why stay there?

Located on the bustling Alameda Principal, Hotel Only You Malaga offers unsuspected tranquility. We were particularly impressed by our room, where the choice of noble materials, such as waxed concrete in the bathroom and rough-hewn wood in the furniture, creates a refined atmosphere. The bathroom, visible from our bedroom thanks to an ingenious sliding partition, added a sophisticated design touch.
The little detail that makes all the difference? The basis for listening to music!
Finally, note the exceptional breakfast, served in a room with a beautiful view of the city and surrounding mountains.
