Absolutely! Visiting the Puente Nuevo is even the first thing to do when you arrive in Ronda! Built in the 18th century, this majestic bridge of several arches spans the spectacular Tajo canyon, offering breathtaking views over the Ronda valley.

What a thrill it is to cross the Puente Nuevo in Ronda for the first time! From a height of 98m, you’ll be captivated by the breathtaking view, with the white houses of the old town standing proudly on the cliffs on one side, and the Guadalevín River winding its way through the rugged landscape on the other.
And let’s not forget the lush green valleys of the Serrania de Ronda, which stretch as far as the eye can see!
Now the landmark of Ronda, the Puente Nuevo was completed in 1793.
It took 34 years to build this bridge, which links the medieval medina to the more modern part of the city.
Did you know? The central chamber was used as a prison during the Spanish Civil War. Today, this space has become the bridge interpretation center. Access is via a staircase opposite the Hotel Parador de Ronda. Here you’ll find a number of historical videos and mediation panels, which we feel could be enhanced.

In our opinion, Ronda’s greatest asset is its majestic cliffs, which make it an open-air museum. There are numerous belvederes and walks with breathtaking views to enjoy from every angle. Among the best viewpoints is the Mirador de Aldehuela, right next to Puente Nuevo, where you can admire the white houses perched on the rocks and the sloping bridge.
The Mirador from theAlameda del Tajo, a lovely 19th-century park offering views over the Ronda valley. When Claire went there, the autumn colors were particularly shimmering. You can even extend your visit with the Paseo de los Ingleses, a short stroll with panoramic views.

Enjoy the panoramic view of Puente Nuevo on foot
Our first recommendation is the Jardin de la Cuenca in the city’s interior, offering a beautiful cliffside walk and perfect views over the city. Photographers, don’t forget your cameras!
For us, the Mirador del Viento is the best spot, with its low-angle view over the bridge. To get there, walk to the Plaza María Auxiliadora, then take the winding cobblestone staircase alongside the church. After a 15-minute descent, you’ll arrive at the stunning viewpoint with the small waterfall.
We recommend you visit at the end of the day to admire the last rays of the setting sun reflected on the ochre stone, adding a touch of magic to the experience.
Note that this viewpoint should not be confused with the Mirador del Puente Nuevo, which is located just ahead and is subject to a charge.
The Mirador La Hoja del Tajo is just a 10-minute drive from the town center. It allows you to see the Puente Nuevo in its entirety and understand the strength of the rock that surrounds it. And if you want to discover the bridge in a new way, we recommend :

The best views of Puente Nuevo from Ronda’s museums
Several of the city’s cultural sites, such as the Palacio de Modragon and the Casa Museo Don Bosco (pictured below), offer breathtaking views over the bridge.
But the most original view is undoubtedly that offered by the Casa del Rey Moro. After descending a hidden staircase, you can observe the strange formations of the chasm from the riverbed.

Here’s a map to help you find your way around the city:
Access by car and parking
It’s possible to reach the bridge by car, but we don’t recommend this option given the number of tourites there, and the road is often congested.
What’s more, it’s very difficult to get around afterwards in the narrow streets of the medina.
The best place to park is in the Plaza del Socorro pay parking lot, just a 5-minute walk from the bridge.
Public transport access
Ronda by rail and road to major cities like Malaga and Sevilla.
There is a bus service from the stations, but we don’t recommend this option as timetables are unpredictable. The easiest way to get around is on foot, since the town is small and all the attractions are within easy reach.
From the Ronda bus station, you can reach Puente Nuevo in just 12 minutes on foot.

Access on organized tours

Visiting difficulties
It all depends on what you’re doing:
- If you simply want to cross the bridge, there are no difficulties apart from the narrowness of the pedestrian lane on the bridge. Wheelchairs can still get through, but be prepared to elbow your way across, as the bridge is often crowded.
- If you choose to visit the bridge interpretation center, please note that wheelchair access is not possible, and there are a few steps up and down. Please also note that during our visit, several video passages were not working.
- If you opt for the watchtowers, you’ll need good shoes, as the viewpoints have to be earned, and access is steep, sometimes slippery, and there are no facilities for people with reduced mobility. Only the Mirador La Hoya del Tajo can be reached by car.

Schedules and prices
The bridge is accessible day and night, every day, free of charge.
The viewpoints are free of charge, except for those in the museums, Cuenca Gardens and the Interpretation Center (€2, payable by credit card only).
In the same way, we advise you to check the museums’ limited opening hours.
How long
Here again, it all depends on the tour you want to do, so we recommend you plan ahead:
- 5-10min if you’re just passing over the bridge, depending on the impression you get!
- 15min if you plan to combine your discovery of the bridge with its interpretation center.
- Half a day if you plan to discover the bridge from one of the viewpoints, walking along a path or exploring one of the city’s cultural centers.
Best moment
Like all the other sites in the tourist city of Ronda, we recommend visiting Puente Nuevo early in the morning, before 10am, or from 4pm, when the tourist groups have left. We also advise you to take the panoramic hikes in the morning to avoid the heat, and if you have the chance, to watch the sunset from one of the viewpoints for an unforgettable souvenir.
Direction of visit
You’re free to explore the bridge from any angle, in any direction. Nevertheless, we recommend that you first take a walk through the city center, then observe it from afar, and finally come back to see it at dusk. The panorama becomes all the more spectacular when illuminations adorn the stone walls with golden touches, contrasting with the surrounding darkness. This magical vision is justification in itself for staying overnight in Ronda!
Visiting with children
We didn’t see any special facilities for children, but they should be impressed by the spectacle of the chasm!
Eating out
Puente Nuevo is close to many restaurants, which you can find in our article on where to eat in Ronda. Nevertheless, any excuse is a good one to revisit the bridge, and you won’t be able to resist trying one of the city’s panoramic restaurants, such as Restaurant El Morabito. Gourmets should note, however, that the natural setting takes precedence over culinary prowess to offer a breathtaking visual experience.
