1. Restaurant Casa Puga (tapas)
This is a real Spanish tavern, just the way we like it! Bodegas or tabernas are traditional wine cellars where you can enjoy tapas and hearty dishes in a convivial atmosphere. The Casa Puga tavern, a favorite with locals, is no exception, with its rustic setting featuring large wine jars, colorful azulejos and hams hanging from the ceiling. The atmosphere is vibrant: during our visit, regulars were crowding the counter to enjoy their portions while chatting happily.
On the food side, we were won over by a selection of tasty tapas: a simple salad made divine by fragrant olive oil, an ensalada rusa, an Andalucia specialty made with potatoes and tuna belly. And let’s not forget the delicious Pulpo a la Gallega, grilled octopus with a paprika and chilli sauce.
A simple but tasty feast to accompany a divine selection of wines from the Albuñol region.

A special mention goes to the vegetarian bites, still a rarity in Andalucia, which brilliantly demonstrate that well-worked vegetables – such as fried egg with corn mousse or artichokes au gratin with chilli – can be dishes in their own right and no longer mere accompaniments!

3. Restaurant Tetería Almedina Baraka (oriental cuisine)
This is the ideal address for a short break before or after your visit to the Alcazaba!
For our part, we came at snack time and enjoyed the delicious oriental pastries and mint tea.
You can also indulge in a variety of dishes, full of flavors (couscous, tajines) and even opt for vegetarian preparations (cold soups, tabbouleh, Berber lentils).
In terms of atmosphere, you’ll appreciate the restaurant’s warm service and attractive setting. You can choose between the patio, dotted with colorful tables and plants, or the terrace with its breathtaking view of the Almería fortress.

7. Restaurant Heladeria La Andulaza (Churrería)
Here, you don’t come for the setting, but for a quick bite to eat before a day of sightseeing! Every season has its delights! In winter, warm up with their crispy churros, made to order. We tried them for breakfast with a smooth hot chocolate. In summer, let yourself be tempted by their homemade ice creams, perfect for cooling off under the Andalusian sun.

The à la carte menu features only small toasts, made with high-quality local cheeses and charcuterie, homemade jams and freshly squeezed juices.
