Is the Hotel Hospes Palacio del Bailio worth it? Our review

We found our stay at this elegant 5-star establishment, housed in a 16th-century palace in the heart of Cordoba’s historic center, relaxing. Antique elements and modern comforts blend perfectly. Some rooms feature luxurious materials such as leather and velvet, while others boast original wall frescoes.

You can relax in the flower garden, at the spa or on the terrace lined with orange trees. His Michelin-starred restaurant, L’Arbequina, is one of Cordoba’s top restaurants, combining Spanish and Asian cuisine.
Just a 15-minute walk from the famous Mezquita-Catedral, the Hotel Hospes Palacio del Bailio invites you to discover Cordoba’s rich history in a tranquil, refined setting. Although the hotel didn’t entirely meet our standards for a 5-star establishment, we still had a pleasant stay and consider itone of the best luxury hotels in Cordoba.
Decoration and atmosphere
The decor and ambience of the Hotel Hospes Palacio del Bailio in Cordoba are very pleasant, especially the patios and exteriors, which offer a charming setting in which to relax.

We also liked the original frescoes in the 14th-century palace and the transparent floor overlooking archaeological remains in the breakfast room.

The room
Our room was sober and elegant, with a balcony overlooking a peaceful inner courtyard. The little touches on arrival, such as fresh flowers on the table and a slice of chocolate cake, added a warm touch to our stay.

The decor was harmonious, with a gray headboard in a rounded pattern that matched the bedspread perfectly. Amenities include kettle, coffee machine with coffee and tea, mini-bar, safe, cookies and bottled water.

The bathroom
The bathroom in our room had both a shower and a bathtub. We found hygiene products from the cosmetics brand Natura Bissébrand, as well as a bathrobe and slippers.

The toilet was separated from the bathroom, however, only by a transparent glass door. There was also a bidet, but no heated towel rail.

The breakfast
Breakfast at Cordoba’s Hotel Hospes Palacio del Bailio takes the form of a fairly classic buffet, with a few local delicacies such as tortillas, chorizo and lomo. Homemade products, such as freshly squeezed orange juice and yoghurts, complete the offer.

We noticed the variety of sweet options: pastries, fruit, cereals, jams, doughnuts and homemade fruit juices. On the savoury side, cheese, cold meats, olives, pickles, tomatoes and tortillas will delight fans of typical flavours. Although the service was well organized, we sometimes found it a little rushed, which didn’t allow us to fully enjoy the moment.

The room, located above archaeological remains visible through a glass floor, adds a unique dimension to the experience.

Pool and spa
The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool set in one of the lovely indoor patios. It is unheated and can be shaded for part of the day.

A spa is also available on site, offering massages and treatments in collaboration with the “Cinq Mondes” brand.Cinq Mondes“. There are also hot, cold and temperate whirlpool baths, reminiscent of the Baños Califales in Cordoba. Please note that prior booking is required to use these facilities.

Restaurant and bar
The hotel has an outdoor bar on the patio where the swimming pool is located. He also has his own restaurant: L’Arbequina. This Michelin-starred establishment is among our selection of the best restaurants in Cordoba! We enjoyed the dishes we tasted, but expected better service from a 5-star hotel restaurant. Our dining room is located in one of the magnificent patios, or in the breakfast room in case of bad weather.

History
We enjoyed learning about the history of the hotel, set in a magnificent 16th-century Andalusian palace built on priceless Roman ruins. This emblematic site, which was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1982, harmoniously blends history and modern comforts. Inside, we loved the 17th-century frescoes and the living room with its Mudejar ceiling, a testament to the opulence of the period.

The Hospes Palacio del Bailio is not only a place to stay, but also an immersion in Andalucia’s history. The archaeological remains visible beneath our feet reminded us that this place has witnessed centuries of history. The refined architectural details and interior design combine contemporary elegance with old-world charm, making this hotel an excellent choice if you’re looking for a unique experience in the heart of Cordoba.
